3 Lions 4 hyenas 1 Eland Die Due to Snare Traps
According to the Mara Predators, Atleast 3 lions, 4 Hyenas, and 1 lead die as 50 snares were found to be the reason for their reasons.
Among the lions that died, including Rafiki, Lenkume, one of Lenkume’s sons who are among the well known big cats of the Mara North Conservancy.
More than 50 snares were set up in a small area on the periphery of Ol Chorro Conservancy, not far from the Mara River, which is the border of the conservancy. An eland got trapped in one of the snares, and we assume that this is what attracted the lions and hyenas to the site, where they also got trapped in snares.
A joint effort by rangers from Kenya Wildlife Service, Enonkishu Conservancy, Kenya, Ol Chorro Conservancy, Lemek Conservancy, and Mara North Conservancy (Masai Mara, Kenya) are sweeping a larger area for snares and will be conducting a full investigation on the matter.
