Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Airport is the second Sheraton hotel located inside Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. It is literally 5 minutes away from the airport terminal. It has a grand entrance that perfectly compliments the Go Green Policy of the hotel. In the waiting area, you are met by a modern, state-of-the-art color-coordinated decor that includes comfortable waiting sofas, side tables, and other unique pieces.
This hotel has facilities to ensure that your stay is a home away from home experience. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the hotel industry. The General Manager at Sheraton Nairobi Airport, Vivek Mathur, shared his insights on how the pandemic has changed them as Four Points by Sheraton and the hotel industry. But first, let’s take a look at some of the facilities that make this hotel absolutely phenomenal, and that had us in complete awe as the Discover Africa team.
The establishment has 172 rooms and suites on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. They are arranged in an L-shaped design that compliments the entire architecture of the hotel. They have four room types: the traditional king room, the deluxe king room, the suite king room, and an executive suite. The main waiting lounges of every floor have emergency exits and emergency phones that can be used during a security breach.
When you walk into the room, you can spot a full-length lighted mirror on your right side. To your left is a working station for clients that might need to work during their stay. There is a king-sized bed and a lounge area with a sofa and a 42-inch LED TV. The bathroom is fitted with a lighted make-up mirror, a modern rain shower head, and bathroom utilities. An iron box, hairdryer, and a robe are inside the closet to make this stay more homely. The room also has safety measures to ensure a safe and secure stay, like smoke detectors detecting fire and making the sprinklers go on. It also has a strict no-smoking policy in the rooms to avoid fire hazards.
Other amenities in the room include a minibar that is well-stocked with various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The drinks and snacks are issued at a fee. The room also comes with one complimentary bottle of water, a coffee maker, a hot water kettle, and a tea service. It is also fitted with high-speed Wi-Fi and an in-room safe to keep any valuables you may have.
Four Points’ has two restaurants and a Café/bar. These include Tazama Restaurant on the rooftop, Lobby Café, and The Marketplace on the ground floor.
Tazama restaurant specializes in international roasts paired with craft cocktails and the best brews. It has an open plan that allows guests to enjoy the spectacular view of the Nairobi National park on one side and the airport runway on the other side. To the right from the entrance is an outdoor pool open from 08:00 AM to 08:00 PM. It has a clear view of the national park located right in the middle of the city. The pool receives ample sunlight during the day but can be heated for guests who enjoy it at night.
Next, we move to the lobby area, where they have the Lobby Café. It can accommodate 65 guests. The space is designed to have lockable storage units that transform from a cafe between 08:00 AM and 04:00 PM to a bar between 04:00 PM and midnight. Again, it is impossible not to notice the interior decor in all the spaces you walk into and the luxury chandeliers that give the different areas a warm and lively feel.
The Marketplace, a 24-hour fine dining restaurant with low hanging, ball-shaped chandeliers that light up the room, giving it an elegant look and feel. The restaurant offers a multi-cuisine menu that includes a variety of international dishes.
It has also adopted the contactless e-menu as one of the many safety guidelines put in place post-pandemic. Other Covid protocols include; wearing masks, maintaining social distance, sanitizing points, and wearing gloves while serving in the buffet. The Marketplace has a terrace stretching into a well-manicured garden with more sitting space and a bar just as you exit the garden. The Marketplace can hold 145 guests, and sometimes it is used to hold events and occasions.
A Friendly Space
Fun fact, the hotel has a parking area that sometimes acts like a basketball court which is great for guests traveling as a group or a family. It is important to recognize that the hotel caters to all kinds of clientele. Vivek Mathur explained the perks of an airport hotel, especially when other hotels were being closed due to the pandemic. This hotel remained open and accommodated families and guests trying to get in and out of the country. Another advantage of this hotel is that you can experience the Nairobi National Park, a park in the middle of the city. You can’t get that anywhere else but at Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Airport.
The pandemic has not been easy on the hotel staff, but what stood out for us is that the hotel management offers them support in getting tested regularly, medication being provided, and counseling support to help them remain productive through it all. A few years ago, we could not have imagined the existence of an airport hotel, but it is time we embrace the perks of the experience and its convenience. It is the ideal location for your Nairobi adventure.
