Fairmont Norfolk Mara Safari Club Closes Indefinitely
In this unprecedented season, a lot of businesses are facing harsh and hard times to remain afloat amid the pandemic. A lot of hotels have taken drastic actions to protect their own properties from being drowned by the pandemic. Some find it harsh since it involves suspending employees, closing down temporarily, or shutting down permanently.
Fairmont Properties have been caught up in this predicament that they had to cancel employees’ contracts from their properties in Kenya, Norfolk Hotel Nairobi and Mara Safari Club Masai Mara. Norfolk Hotel is one of the many best hotels in the chain of Fairmont Hotels. Being one of the oldest hotels in Kenya, it has served a lot of people including prominent personnel around the world. But one blow to it made it close its doors indefinitely. Mara Safari Club is one of the prime properties in Masai mara Kenya providing high-end experiences to guests on safari.

From a Memo released by the Country Manager Mehdi Morad, stated that the effects of COVID 19 have been severe, including the heavy rain that pounded in Masai Mara, causing heavy floods to properties including Mara Safari Club, has caused them an indefinite closure of both properties.

COVID effects have really been harsh on the tourism industry, halting flight operations, tourism services, and closing down of properties worldwide. It’s unfortunate that Tourism will lose more than expected, the numbers of employees that it had employed. According to UNWTO, almost 25 million jobs will be lost due to COVID 19 by the end of 2020 and 2021.
